Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship
The Cognitive Neuroscience of Communication Lab at Wilfrid Laurier University, under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Jones is seeking a potential candidate for the Vanier Canada Scholarship program. The Vanier is a prestigious scholarship offered by the Government of Canada to attract and retain world-class doctoral students. There are 167 awardees each year.
Value and Duration of Award

$50,000 per year for three years
Eligibility
The candidate will have many of the qualities and experiences listed below:

Successful candidates should have a Master of Science degree in psychology, neuroscience, life sciences, biomedical science, engineering or a related discipline.

Ideal candidates will have an affinity for data analysis and programming, and possess signal processing experience, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think independently.

Research topics in the lab include, but are not limited to: vocal production/perception; motor control; phonetic convergence; EEG markers of disease or disorders; vigilence / cognitive load / meditation; communication disorders; language processing; audiovisual speech perception (and/or eye gaze)

We use EEG/ERP techniques regularly so experience with EEG/ERP would be a significant asset. Alternative experience could include fMRI (or TMS). At minimum, the applicant should have training and experience with signal processing and statistical data analysis.

Demonstrable programming skills in Matlab (or another programming language)

Other valued skills include behavioral testing using an eye-tracker and computational modeling.

Demonstration of research potential through evidence of their previous research contributions and ideally contributions to research publications in international journals.

Demonstration of academic excellence (transcripts, awards and distinctions)

Demonstration of leadership (potential and demonstrated ability in personal achievement, involvement in academic life, volunteerism/community outreach, civic engagement).

Demonstrably fluent in oral and written English.
